If you are using city water and have not experienced murkiness, than you do not need a sedimentation filter. For underground water, a sedimentation filter should be used. Hard water is first passed through the water softener, in this step calcium and magnesium are held by ion exchance resin. This resin has been used many years along with salt backwashing system. At the second step water filter eliminates chlorine, gases, odor, taste, anorganic, organic, and colored compounds. After these two steps, the water is good for bathing, laundry, and dishwashing. The last step is reverse osmosis (RO). RO eliminates sodium, pipe particules, heavy metals, chlorine, chlorinated organic compounds, the other inorganic and organic compounds. RO is placed under the sink.
